Custom research methodology

Customized Research Solutions

Research designed around a specific commercial question, when a standard instrument will not answer it.

01 / What it is

Some questions do not fit a mystery shop or a satisfaction survey. Where a competitor is winning and you do not know why; whether a new format works before you build twelve of them; what a category looks like in a market you have not entered. Those need a design of their own.

The work starts with the decision, not the method. We ask what you will do differently depending on the answer, and we design backwards from that. If the answer will not change any decision, we will say so — that is a cheaper conversation than a fielded study.

Methods are chosen to fit: competitor audits, price and range checks, in-store observation, accompanied shopping, depth interviews, focus groups, or a combination. Fieldwork runs across Qatar and the wider Gulf with local moderators and interviewers who work in the language the respondent thinks in.

Sampling assumptions, refusal rates and any limitation on how far a finding can be pushed are reported alongside the result. A study that hides its own weaknesses is not research.

02 What we measure

The criteria, before we start.

Written against your own service standard, weighted with you, and agreed in writing before any fieldwork is commissioned.

Competitor pricing, range and promotional activity
Category share of shelf and share of feature
Service benchmark against named competitors
New format or concept response before rollout
Category entry conditions in an unfamiliar market
Customer journey mapping across channels
Brand and message comprehension
03 How we run it

Stages, with the time each one actually takes.

01

Frame the decision

1 week

We establish what will be decided on the strength of this research, and what a useful answer would have to look like.

02

Design

1–2 weeks

Method, sample, instruments and analysis plan agreed in writing before any fieldwork is commissioned.

03

Fieldwork

2–8 weeks

Scale and geography set the window. Progress and any sampling difficulty are reported while the study is still open.

04

Analysis and debrief

2 weeks

Findings, the confidence you can place in them, and a recommendation presented in person.

04 / Deliverables

What you receive.

  • A written design agreed before fieldwork, including the analysis plan
  • Fieldwork report with achieved sample against target
  • Findings with the limits of what they support stated plainly
  • Recommendation tied to the decision the research was commissioned to inform
  • Raw data in a usable format, on request
Illustrative report structure — the instrument, not a client's data. Real scorecards are confidential to the client who commissioned them.
06 / Questions

Questions we are actually asked.

A mystery shopping programme is a repeated measurement against a fixed scorecard. Custom research answers a one-off question and its design is built for that question alone. Clients frequently run both — the programme for the trend, a study when something changes.

Yes, and reasonably often. If you already know what you will do regardless of the result, or the sample you can reach cannot carry the cut you need, the honest advice is not to field it.

Our own panel and field teams cover Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. Beyond that we would be commissioning a partner, and we would tell you that rather than present it as our own coverage.

07 / Enquire

Three fields.

Tell us roughly what you need and a person will reply. No form-fill sequence, no drip campaign.

Or build a full brief — it takes about two minutes and gets you a more useful answer.
